On Sunday, the Philadelphia Flyers raised over $1 million for charity at their annual Flyers Wives Fight for Lives Carnival.  It was the 35th annual event where fans can come for an up close meet and greet with their favorite players for pictures and autographs, as well as a dunk tank, Wii boxing and Just Dance for Xbox Kinect.  Over the 35 year history the event has become a fan favorite, raising a total of $24 million including this year.

It has been reported that Christopher Moorhouse, the sought after fan that threw a banana at Wayne Simmonds during an NHL preseason game earlier this year in London, Ontario, has been fined a grand total of $200.  As Simmonds was approaching Red Wings goalie Jordan Pearce during a shootout on September 22nd, Moorhouse threw a banana on the ice that almost hit Simmonds.  The 26 year old Moorhouse pleaded guilty on Monday, but did not appear in court.  Police said there wasn’t enough evidence to charge Moorhouse with a fine, and his lawyer said that his client “didn’t know that hurling bananas at black athletes could be seen as hateful.”  200 dollars huh? That should really teach this guy a lesson…….

Henrik Lundqvist stole the show earlier this week at the NHL’s Winter Classic.  With a 1 goal lead and questionable calls by the referees late in the game, Lundqvist game up with the biggest save of the season so far, stopping Danny Briere on a penalty shot with only seconds remaining.
